OPERATING A BUSINESS IN SOUTH AFRICA

Every business that operates in South Africa needs to comply with South African law, and the prescribed regulations, especially the compliance with commercial law and the South Africa Revenue Services. As such every business:

Needs to be registered with CIPC;
Must be registered for Income Tax;
Must be registered for Value Added Tax (VAT) if total revenue exceeds R1 million per annum; and
Have a registered South African bank account.

Non-compliance with the above can lead to many disastrous ends for business owners. SARS will resort to unannounced SARS Audits, imposing heavy penalties and interest levied compounded, which is payable immediately.

This could also lead to work permits being revoked, and a barring of business operations in South Africa.

In South Africa, if the above requirements are not adhered to by South African business owners, the business is considered to be operating illegally in the country.
